Title: Childhood Memories
Artists: Salete Leal

While I was thinking about how I would make the crochet square that Raquel had asked me for — and I knew it would be joined to many others made by different people in very different contexts — I found myself drifting back into my childhood.
But the idea came. I picked up the needle and the yarn, and across that vast distance of time and place, sitting on a small stool in the shade of the orange trees in my cousin Olívia’s backyard, a little crochet square that I wanted to make nicely began to take shape, ready to join the others.
My square kept growing, and although I was alone in my house, I felt that it was a little piece of me joining many others — and that, little by little, we would become a multitude of people who, without knowing each other, take part in a project that unites us as Humanity.

Each piece (square) of our installation is born from a shared moment of conversation and creation. Its colors, textures, and shapes reflect the memories, questions, and hopes that its author or collective brought to the installation.
Each of these pieces invites you into a story of belonging. A story that is now part of a collective work in constant growth.
